Bio

Jayne has been playing the piano since the age of twelve and singing since the age of fourteen. She was encouraged hugely by a great singer called Gilian, who gave her a lot of time and took her singing with her to do a song or two wherever she went. This is how Jayne really got started.

She began to sing in the worship team at church and at the age of fourteen did her first tour of the UK within a big group of young people. Jayne toured with this group as a singer/soloist most summers for a number of years, touring the UK and places like South Africa and America. These tours were a great experience, and Jayne, after assisting other great group directors, ended up being a director herself. These tours were a great benefit to Jayne not just musically but spiritually too. She got to meet some great people who really helped her to believe in who God said she was and who helped her to grow in her own relationship with God.

Between tours Jayne did college and uni and carried on singing in church and at home and everywhere all the time - in fact she rarely shut up! After studying music, psychology and a bit of spanish at college, Jayne went on to university in Northampton to carry on her study of music, psychology and philosophy. She graduated with a degree in music and philosophy, and some fantastic experiences and friends.

Although her vocal training at college and uni was classical, Jayne likes all kinds of music, from country, jazz, pop, folk, r&b, soul... you name it and she probably likes it (with the exception of thrash metal type stuff!) but she much prefers to sing worship music.

Whilst at uni Jayne was asked to sing at Spring Harvest Word Alive.

"I couldn't believe it! I had been there the previous year with my friends and had been walking past the big tent when I heard a girl singing with the most beautiful voice I've heard. I went inside to listen and thought, 'I'd love to do what you're doing.' The next year I was!"

Jayne has been singing there every year since with the student worship band. Then Jayne was asked to sing at The Keswick Convention.

"I went to the Convention each year with my church youth group. John Risbridger (who had led the Word Alive band that year) was leading the worship at Keswick too. He had seen me in the meeting and was losing his voice so he asked me to give him a hand with the singing. I've been there every year since then. I love it!"

Jayne loves singing at these conferences and has also sung at the IFES international conference in Germany, the NEAC conference in Blackpool and others.

"I love God, and I love to sing and to worship God through music and it's such a privilege to be involved in teams that are about loving God and about helping others to draw near to him in worship."

Currently when Jayne isn't singing and writing songs she works as a music lecturer in a FE college, teaching singing (classical and pop vocal), songwriting and all kinds of other things music related. She teaches students who are in their late teens, with a few mature students too.

"I love my job at the college. I get to encourage young people and practically help them to improve their abilities so that they can be better equipped to reach for their dreams. I want to encourage them and help them to believe in themselves the way that someone believed in me. It's great, I love young people and I love to sing, and God has blessed me big time with a job where I get to combine the two things I love!!"
